Basement Finishing and Renovation
Perhaps ironically, existing basements are often not utilized at all. It may be because they were incorporated due to sloping land, or because there was a need to house services, like a water tank or heating equipment. But with a few relatively simple improvements, the area can be remodeled and turned into useful living space.
Or, if the house has suspended timber floors, there may be a fairly deep space under the house that could be extended vertically to create a basement.
While basement finishing and renovation is not a do-it-yourself project, it won’t necessarily be a major construction undertaking unless a large amount of ground has to be excavated and the house underpinned.
If you already have a basement, problematic issues to look out for include:
- Signs of damp on basement walls and floors
- Exposed plumbing pipes and wiring
- Ventilation
- Untreated wood that is in contact with soil; this can easily result in rotting wood
- A musty smell that might indicate dry rot
Serenity Renovations can assess your basement and discuss the possibilities in terms of finishing the area and remodeling it so that it becomes a useful recreation room for the whole family. If you live in a condo or gated community like Bent Tree or Big Canoe, then the design and planning team will ensure that the renovation meets HOA and local authority rules and regulations.
The friendly professionals at Serenity Renovations will do everything possible to make your dreams a reality.
